Museums Details
When Mount Rainier National Park was established in 1899, Longmire, previously home to James Longmire's homestead, lodging and mineral springs resort, became the park headquarters. While the area no longer serves in this role, the original 1916 headquarters building houses a museum that tells of the park's early days. The Longmire Museum is open daily all year, weather permitting, and offers exhibits, information and books for sale on the park. During the winter, visitors can also get climbing and wilderness permits at the museum.
