Lodging Details
Lodging options in and around Mount Rainier National Park cater to a range of preferences, from the rustic charm of historic inns to the tranquility of secluded cabins and the convenience of campgrounds. Whether you seek the comfort of a room with a view or the adventure of sleeping under the stars, the park and its vicinity offer accommodations to enhance your visit. Inside the Park: Paradise Inn: Open seasonally from late spring through early fall, Paradise Inn is a National Historic Landmark that has welcomed visitors since 1916. With its majestic setting at Paradise, the inn offers guests a step back in time, with rooms that emphasize historic charm over modern amenities, ensuring a unique stay amidst the natural beauty of the park. National Park Inn: Located in Longmire, this inn operates year-round, providing a cozy retreat with 25 rooms, a full-service dining room, and a general store. Its veranda offers spectacular views of Mount Rainier, making it a perfect spot for relaxation after a day of exploring. Near the Park: The communities surrounding Mount Rainier, such as Ashford, Packwood, and Greenwater, offer a variety of lodging options, including cabins, lodges, bed and breakfasts, and vacation rentals. Ashford: The gateway to the Nisqually entrance, Ashford hosts a variety of accommodations. Whittaker's Bunkhouse, for example, offers quaint lodging options that range from cabins and cottages to motel rooms, catering to climbers, hikers, and families. Alexander's Lodge & Restaurant, situated just outside the park boundary, provides historic accommodations with the added convenience of an on-site dining option. Packwood: This small town is located to the southeast of the park and offers a range of lodging options, including motels, cabins, and vacation homes. Its proximity to both Mount Rainier and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest makes it an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts. Greenwater: To the northwest of the park, Greenwater offers cabin rentals and lodges nestled in the forest, providing a more secluded experience. Crystal Mountain Resort, located further north, offers accommodations ranging from standard hotel rooms to luxury condos, along with dining options and activities year-round. Camping: For those who prefer to be closer to nature, the park offers several campgrounds, including Cougar Rock, Ohanapecosh, and White River, which are open seasonally. These campgrounds provide basic amenities and serve as a perfect base for hiking and exploring the park. Reservations are recommended during the peak summer months, while some sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Booking Tips: Advance Reservations: Lodging inside the park, especially at the historic inns, can fill up quickly, especially during the summer months. It's advisable to book well in advance to secure your preferred accommodation. Seasonality: Keep in mind that many accommodations operate seasonally, with peak operations during the summer months. Winter lodging options are more limited but offer the unique experience of a snow-covered landscape. Consider Your Activities: Choose lodging based on the areas of the park you wish to explore. Staying inside or close to the park reduces travel time to trailheads and points of interest.
