Lake George Trail Details
It takes an intrepid soul to reach this tucked-away lake located on the northwest side of Mount Wow. To access the trailhead, enter the park through the Nisqually Entrance in the park's southwestern corner and turn left (north) onto Westside Road, following the road until it ends at Dry Creek in 3 miles. Then hike or bike the closed portion of the road—about 3.8 miles—until you reach Round Pass. Enjoy a moderately steep ascent .9 miles up to the forested lake, which is a popular spot for families with young kids. If you're looking to add a few miles, continue your hike up to Gobblers Knob Lookout, 1.5 miles (and a hefty climb) away. Views from the top of the knob in this isolated section of the park include Mount Rainier and the Tahoma Glacier descending down from the summit. Mounts St. Helens, Mount Hood, Mount Adams, and the Olympic Mountains can be seen (on a clear day) . The fire lookout here has been in operation since the 1930s. The hike up to Gobblers Knob Lookout is an additional 1.5 miles each way and much steeper, but you'll be rewarded with stunning views of Mount Rainier and the Tahoma Glacier.
