Fishing Details

Although Mount Rainier National Park isn't known for its fishing, there are nonetheless some opportunities for experienced anglers. Rivers and streams are open for fishing from late May or early June through late October, and most lakes are ice-free from July through October. Several fish that are protected by the Endangered Species Act live in park streams, as well as native trout. Anglers are encouraged to use barbless hooks and artificial lures and to release uninjured fish. Visitors do not need a fishing license, but anyone who plans to spend the night in the backcountry will need a permit.
