Camp Muir Details

Camp Muir, situated at 10,080 feet between the Nisqually and Paradise glaciers, has a shelter for those attempting to summit Mount Rainier. It's one of the most popular camps for those climbing the mountain, since seven of the 10 summit approaches depart from here. Importantly, there are toilet facilities located here. The camp has a ranger station, solar toilets, and the Muir Public Shelter, which can hold about 25 people on a first-come, first-served basis. The 12-by-25 foot, single-story, one-room shelter was built in memory of John Muir, the famous naturalist and wilderness advocate. Another smaller shelter, now used for storage, was built in 1916 by the Mountaineers climbing organization, and remains the oldest stone structure in the park.
