Tree and Plants Details

Shenandoah's length and elevation range creates a variety of different habitats for trees and plants. Over 1,400 unique species exist within the park. Many factors, including elevation, moisture, soil, and slope, create pockets of unique plants and trees within different sections of the park. Amid the forested canopy within the park, the most common trees are the Chestnut Oak and Red Oak. However, sections of the park also include poplar, cove hardwood, and spruce-fir forests. The park's backcountry offer opportunities to get up close to plants and trees while Skyline Drive offers the ability to move from swiftly from one environment to another. Beyond trees, visitors can discover a myriad of different wildflowers, shrubs, vines, grasses and ferns. A full list of the park's native plants and tress can be found [here](https://www.nps.gov/shen/learn/nature/upload/SHEN_Plants_All.pdf).
