Horseback Riding Details
With 180 miles of trails open to horse use, there are a wide range of opportunities for riding in the park. You may choose a guided trail ride or bring your own horse. If you decide to bring a horse, be sure to follow all park guidelines to minimize the equestrian impact on the park. [These NPS regulations](https://www.nps.gov/shen/learn/management/upload/horse_use.pdf) apply to where you ride, where and how you hitch your horse, where you park your trailer, and concerns for the safety of your animal as well as other visitors. Horses are not allowed overnight in the park. Plan ahead for where you will be traveling with your horse, and be sure to ride only on the yellow-blazed horse trails. There are many out-and-back and circuit rides within the park, ranging from short, flat fire roads to challenging and steep footpaths. Choose to wind your way past old home sites, along narrow forested trails, to cool swimming holes, or past spectacular waterfalls.
