Dark Hollow Falls Details

One of the most popular hikes in the park, the moderately graded Dark Hollow Falls Trail leads downhill alongside Hogcamp Branch to a 70-foot waterfall. The impressive cascade is only 0.7 miles from the trailhead at the Byrd Visitor Center (mile 50.7 on Skyline Drive). From the falls, most people re-trace their steps back to the starting point, although there is a continuing trail that crosses the brook and connects with the Rose River Fire Road. Keep a lookout for wildlife and be aware that the rocks near the falls can be slippery when wet. This is a very popular hike, so don't expect to be alone, but it's a great place to take photographs, particularly in the fall. If you are looking for a quieter experience, go early in the morning.
