Island Line Rail Trail Details
Following the former Rutland-Canadian Railroad route, this 13.4-mile trail along Lake Champlain is a mix of green parks, sandy beaches, and urban industrial buildings. The first 8-miles of the trail is a separate route on its own (the Burlington Greenway), although it continues north along the shore past Waterfront Park, North Beach, and Leddy Park. After passing Delta Park and crossing over the Winooski River, you will reach a marble causeway with remarkable views of the Green Mountains to the west and Adirondacks to the east. It is a beautiful ride if you do the whole thing in one fell swoop, although it is worth making a few stops along the beautiful beaches and towns to make the most of your time.
