Water Details
Desert environments are harsh, and dehydration remains a constant threat to Zion National Park visitors. One gallon of water per person, per day, should be sufficient to remain adequately hydrated. Water is available from visitor centers, campgrounds, and Zion Lodge. The water from the springs, pools, and streams along the trails is not considered drinkable without treatment. Untreated water is known to cause illnesses that range from discomfort to severe and life threatening impairment. For hikers traveling longer distances, there are a number of water sanitation methods available, and it is recommended that water be filtered through a micron filter and treated with iodine or household bleach before being transferred to a clean, sanitized container.
