Wildlife Details
A variety of habitats in Capitol Reef National Park support abundant wildlife. Within the park, 239 bird species, 71 mammal species, 15 types of reptiles, 5 types of amphibians, and 13 native fish have been recorded. Habitats include pinyon-juniper forest, perennial streams, dry washes, and rock cliffs. Some of the most common animals that visitors might see are the common gray fox, jackrabbits, cottontails, mule deer, ringtail cats, and marmots. Pronghorn antelope, elk, bobcats, and mountain lions are also known to inhabit the park, but sightings are quite rare. Great Basin collared lizards and long-nosed leopard lizards are common in the park, as are a number of other lizards and toads. Download an animal spotting checklist [here](http://www.nps.gov/care/learn/nature/animals.htm) so you can keep track of what you see in the park.
