Hanksville Details
Remote Hanksville sits at the junction of Hwys. 24 and 95, about 38 miles east of Fruita, and has a population of just over 200 people. The town is just south of the confluence of the Fremont River and Muddy Creek, which join together to for the Dirty Devil River, which flows in turn to the Colorado. Settled in 1882, the town became known as Hanksville in 1885, named after Ebenezer Hanks, a Mormon pioneer who helped settle the small outpost. Visitors today will find a few small hotels and gas stations along the main routes through town, as well as a few restaurants.
