Plan Around The Maze
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
The Maze Details
The most remote district in Canyonlands is the eponymous Maze, usually accessed from the west side of the park rather than from the Moab area. From The Maze's ranger station plan on another 3-6 hours in a high-clearance vehicle before reaching the Maze. It is also possible to enter The Maze via jet boat from the Colorado River. With limited water, no cell service, a labyrinth of unmarked canyons and such a long drive, this area is on Backpacker Magazine's list of most dangerous hikes. But it is also known for its stark beauty and pristine environment. Be sure to speak with a ranger before embarking on a trip into The Maze. Not only is a permit required but it is prudent to learn all you can about the roads, conditions, and hazards. Read more about The Maze [here](http://www.nps.gov/cany/planyourvisit/mazehiking.htm).
