Needles District Details

Named after the multi-colored rock spires or needles of the region, Needles is difficult to access but well worth the effort. This area is a great choice for multi-day backpacking trips. 40 miles south of Moab and then 35 miles west is the entrance to The Needles District. A vast network of hiking, backpacking and 4-wheel trails lead to Chesler Park, Elephant Hill, Squaw Flat and many other geologic and historic sites. This remote area is a paradise for naturalists and geology buffs. The landscape is rugged and challenging to negotiate overpasses, through rock openings and occasionally up and down ladders.
