Wildlife Viewing Details

Birds and squirrels are the animals you're most likely to see while observing Bryce Canyon from the rim or hiking the park's trails, but there's more out there to see if you are quiet and lucky. It's pretty common to see peregrine falcons soaring in the thermals above the canyon and Steller's Jays in the Ponderosa Pines on the rim. Ravens are also quite common, including in parking lots where they like to scavenge for food. California condors, on the other hand, are among the most rare of park inhabitants, but you may see them above the canyon as well. The Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel and Uintah Chipmunk scamper around the canyon floor and rim, while you're most likely to see an elusive mountain lion while driving the park roads at night, if at all. Head to the meadows in the north end of the park to get a look at Utah Prairie Dogs, an endangered species that has its largest protected population here in the park.
