Dixie National Forest Details

Abutting Bryce Canyon National Park to the west, the [Dixie National Forest](http://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/dixie/home) is practically a sister park to Bryce -- a big sister. The National Forest covers two million areas compared to 35,000 acres in the National Park. And you can do some things here that are not permitted in Bryce Canyon, like mountain biking, off-roading, hunting and fishing. Sitting between the Great Divide and the Colorado River, this vast park is perhaps best known to Bryce Canyon visitors for the Red Canyon Bicycle Trail, which runs parallel to UT-12 along its 8.3-mile length. The trail traverses Red Canyon and passes through Ponderosa Pine forest, ending at the Paunsagunt Plateau. Paved from start to finish, the trail is open to hikers, road bikes and mountain bikes; mountain bikers also can connect to other, unpaved trails from the Red Canyon Bicycle Trail.
