With over 3,840-acres of rolling sand dunes and deserted desert-like plains, this mystical park is made for exploration. Here, you'll find massive sand deposits up to 70 feet high. The Monahans Sandhills extend far beyond the park (they are roughly 70 miles long and 20 miles wide), although most of the land is privately owned. Their unique hill-like structure is shaped by the summer, winter, and spring winds, with many of the dunes existing for over 25,000 years. While there aren't any marked paths or trails, climbing the dunes on foot is possible. Horseback riding is also a popular activity, with equestrian facilities made especially for this activity. More adventurous visitors may also try sandboarding, sand tobogganing, and even sand surfing.
