Fort Parker State Park Details
As peaceful as it is beautiful, this park sits across the stunning Navasota River. It's known for its leisure activities, including walk, cycling, and even geocaching. Due to its proximity to the water, it's also a great place for swimming, paddling, and fishing. The park was built during the mid-1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, which provided many of the roads, buildings, and recreational facilities you see in the area. They were also the ones to build the 423-foot dam that extends across the river. There are three trails that lead around the park, including the easy .5 mile Navasota River Trail, the scenic 1.5 mile Springfield trail, and the interpretive Bur Oak Nature Trail. Don't forget to stay for sunset - the colorful sky off the river boasts one of the best sunsets in the county.
