Considered one of the most pristine rivers in Texas, this park offers numerous adventures either on land or water. The park covers over 37,000-acres and is divided into two units - Del Norte Unit to the north, and Dan A. Hughes Unit to the south. The Hughes Unit is only accessible via the river. Visitors can enjoy swimming, paddling, and fishing in the river, however, paddlers should plan carefully if they're venturing far. Be sure to check the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department website for tips and requirements for multi-day paddling excursions. There are numerous trails available for hiking and biking, as well as bird watching. Campsites are available for overnight camping, as well as rustic cabins. The park also preserves ancient pictographs to which no access is allowed.
