Chamizal National Memorial Details

The ever-changing route of the Rio Grande River led to many border disputes between the U.S. and Mexico, which use the river to mark their international boundaries. The peaceful resolution of a 100-year-long disagreement led to the creation of the Chamizal National Memorial, a 55-acre park in El Paso, Texas. Set on once-disputed land, the park serves as a cultural center focused on the culture shared by people on both sides of the border (a similar park was built nearby on Mexican land). It includes an amphitheater, theater, and art galleries as well as a museum about the Chamizal Convention of 1963.
