Big Bend Ranch State Park Details

Steep canyons, rugged mountains, night skies - this remote park is for the adventurous. With 23 miles of frontage along the Rio Grande, the park is famous for its rafting as well as hiking. Situated next to Big Bend National Park, the park is the largest state park in Texas and shares the Chihuahuan Desert ecosystem. Visitors can hike, backpack, horseback, and mountain bike on the 238 miles of multi-use trails. There are also 70 miles of unmaintained dirt roads in high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles. In the evening, visitors can enjoy one of the best stargazing spots in the state (designated an International Dark Sky Park). Visitors can also enjoy the scenic Camino del Rio drive. There are numerous animals that habitat this ecosystem but the park is most known for its herd of longhorn. Ojito Adentro is one of the park’s premier birding spots with a wide variety of species - be sure to check out the park's birding checklist. Madrid Falls, the second-highest waterfall in Texas, is also located in the park. Barton Warnock Environmental Center serves as the east entrance visitor center.
