Hiking
Big Bend offers varying terrain and difficulty for hikers of any experience level.
Plan Around Hiking
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Hiking Details
No matter what kind of hiking you are interested in, you are sure to find a trail that suits your ability in Big Bend. For day hikes, there are 10 desert hikes, seven mountain hikes and five river hikes of varying difficulty and terrain type. You'll have no problem finding varying lengths and differing sights to see. Check out the hiking section to see all the trails. There are plenty of multi-day backcountry hikes that lead you all throughout the park. However, almost every backcountry hike encounters desert for a time so make sure you bring enough water to keep yourself hydrated (about a gallon per day) and clothing to protect you from the sun.
