Chisos Basin's climate gives you the best chance of seeing a wide range of wildlife. The mountains provide the shade and greenery necessary to support a diverse selection of animals, so always keep your eyes open! When driving up the Chisos Basin Road be on the lookout for black bears, if you are extremely lucky in the spring, you might be able to catch a baby black bear with its mom. Carmen white-tailed deer are also common up in the mountains and many beautiful species of bird that will wake you with their songs if you stay in the Chisos Basin Campground. Big Bend is the only place that the Colima warbler can be found within the United States, so be on the lookout for its gray feathers with yellow under its wings; it definitely prefers the Chisos Basin area over any other in the park.
