South Rim Trail Details
The South Rim Trail features one of the best views in the park which makes this difficult hike worth your while if you are an experienced hiker. The 11.9-mile loop is about six miles uphill to the rim and then six miles back down; complete with a variety of scenery ranging from the Laguna Meadows to the Boot Canyon. Boot Canyon has winding, narrow passageways that are fun to explore and the Laguna Meadows provide open vistas. The change of scenery makes this one of the most popular hikes in the park and everyone agrees that the hard work getting up to the south rim is most certainly worth it for the stunning views from the top. To access the South Rim Trail, begin at the Basin Trailhead located in the Chisos Basin Campground.
