Plan Around Backpacking
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Backpacking Details
Backpackers can choose from 42 designated campsites as well as over 100 miles of backcountry trails. These rarely explored areas make for great hiking and the campsites along the way help to create natural breaking points to allow for rest and recovery. A detailed 7.5 minute topographical map as well as a compass are necessary for most hikes due to the complex topography and vagueness of the trails. Make sure to prepare for the heat and extreme conditions of the desert and pack accordingly. In order to stay hydrated while hiking in the desert, it is estimated that you will need about a gallon of water per day. Group hiking is strongly encouraged as the trails can be vague.
