US-385 Details
U.S. Highway 385 is one of two major paved roads that run through Wind Cave National Park and into the Black Hills National Forest. The highway enters Wind Cave National Park from the south and runs along the park's western side before cutting west into Black Hills National Forest several miles after the visitor center. From the road, you'll get scenic views of the prairie -- and don't be surprised if you get caught behind a giant buffalo herd crossing the road! Highway 385, often called the Black Hills Parkway, offers access to many of Wind Cave's hiking trails, such as the Cold Brook Canyon Trail and the Wind Cave Canyon Trail, as well as the visitor center and Elk Mountain Campground. The road also accesses many popular campgrounds and reservoirs in the national forest, with scenic pullouts along the way.
