SD-87 Details

State Highway 87 is the other major paved road on the western side of Wind Cave National Park. Highway 87 enters Wind Cave National Park from the north, via Custer, S.D., and the direction of Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The highway weaves along the park's western edge and ends at an intersection with Highway 385. Use this road to access Wind Cave's Lookout Point Trail, Centennial Trail, Rankin Ridge Trail, and Sanctuary Trail. This road is also the easiest way to get to Mount Rushmore National Memorial from Wind Cave National Park. It is part of a group of state highways that make up the Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway, one of the most popular scenic drives in the country.
