Centennial Trail Details
The Centennial Trail is a 111-mile trail that spans nearly the entire state of South Dakota. Six miles of the trail runs through Wind Cave National Park. You can access the trail from two points within the park. The northern trailhead is off of NPS-5, 1.4 miles east of the intersection with SD 87. The southern trailhead is on SD 87, 0.7 miles south of the intersection with Highway 385. The trail weaves over the hills of the prairie and through ponderosa pine forest. You will pass Beaver Creek and see the remnants of the American Elk prescribed burn of 2012. The burn has spurred a significant amount of fresh, new tree and plant growth.
