Backcountry Camping Details
You are allowed to camp in the park's backcountry as long as you pick up a free permit from the park visitor center. Backcountry camping is limited to the northwest corner of the park, and campsites must be at least 1/4-mile from any road and 100 feet from any water source or trail. There are not very many water sources in Wind Cave's backcountry, so pack in as much water as you can and bring a filter for any water that you collect to get rid of any microorganisms like Giardia. Fires are not permitted (gas stoves are OK).
