The outdoor amphitheater at Mount Rushmore is a terrific place to stop and take in the your surroundings. To the front the monument towers above, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Black Hills; to the back, and up a bit, is the Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center and, just above that, the Grand View Terrace. The amphitheater is also where the Evening Lighting Ceremonies and 4th of July celebrations take place in the summertime, and special events are held year-round. Elevators provide handicap access from the Grand View Terrace to the amphitheater.
