The peaceful Conata Picnic Area is located in the Badlands Wilderness Area, with picnic tables and restrooms set snugly against a badlands wall. The Conata Basin area lies to the east, and Sage Creek is to the west. You can reach the picnic area from Badlands Loop Road about 12 miles south of Wall, S.D.; take the Conata Basin Road south and the parking lot will be on the west side of the road. Conata Picnic Area also serves as a trailhead and registration site for backcountry hiking.
