Wildlife Viewing
Keep an eye out for wildlife during a visit to Congaree National Park.
Plan Around Wildlife Viewing
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Wildlife Viewing Details
The park's forests and waterways provide terrific homes for the wildlife found in the area, including river otter, turtles, wading birds, deer and maybe even an alligator. Birding is also popular at Congaree National Park; in fact, the park hosts an annual Great Backyard Bird Count event and hosts a few other birding programs throughout the year. Be sure to bring your binoculars, look up into the treetops and keep still to see what birds will make appearances during your visit-just under 200 species of birds have been documented on the park's checklist. In 2001, the park was designated a Globally Important Bird Area.
