Tree and Plants Details

The forest has a variety of communities that create homes for different types of trees and plants, ranging from upland pines to bald cypress and water tupelo. The forest also boasts a number of national and state tree champions, including the National Champion Loblolly Pine: 167 feet tall and nearly 15 feet around. Congaree National Park has the largest, intact area of old growth bottomland hardwood forest left in the southeastern U.S.
