Standard Crater Lake Boat Tours Details
Standard boat tours leave from Cleetwood Cove on the north side of Crater Lake daily from mid-June through mid-September at 9:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:15 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 3:45 p.m. Visitors stay on the boat for the entire time. The two-hour tour takes you counter-clockwise around the lake, stopping to view interesting geological and historical landmarks along the way, including Phantom Ship, Wizard Island, and the Old Man of the Lake, a 30-foot tree stump that has been floating around the lake for more than a century. A park ranger is onboard to provide information about all of the landmarks that you see. Tours cost $40 for adults and $27 for children ages 3-11 (kids age two or younger are not permitted on the boat). Starting in early July, there is limited availability to [register for tours in advance](https://secure.xanterra.net/forms/pub/crater_volcano.php). Tickets for the rest of the seats can be purchased in person at the self-serve ticketing kiosks located at the top of the Cleetwood Cove Trail, in the lobby of the Crater Lake Lodge, and in the Annie Creek Gift Shop at Mazama Village. Tickets are available up to 24 hours before the tour. Tour schedules may change or cancel unexpectedly due to weather. The only way to access tour boat is to hike down the steep Cleetwood Cove Trail, a 1.1-mile (one way) trail that descends 700 feet from the caldera rim to the boat dock on the lakeshore. The hike is not recommended for people with poor fitness or health problems. Allow at least 1.5 hours to hike from Rim Village to Cleetwood Cove. And remember, once you get off the boat at the end of your tour, you still have to hike back up those 1.1 miles.
