Plan Around Paddling
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.

Paddling Details
Boating is allowed on the Little Missouri River over its course through Theodore Roosevelt National Park, with canoes and kayaks being the recommended modes of transportation. There are a couple of access points for day excursions or taking a longer backcountry trip through the stretch of the Little Missouri River between the South Unit and the North Unit. Check with the park visitor center for current conditions and recommended access points for your trip. Water levels in the river change daily, and depth requirements must be met before embarking on your paddling trip. In Medora, a river depth of at least 2.5 feet is required for fair boating and 2.5 to 3.5 feet for good boating. The trip is for experienced and well-prepared paddlers only: the river winds through remote areas of the park, and rescue operations could take hours or days. Cell phone service is limited or nonexistent. Bring plenty of water for drinking and cooking, food, apparel, and gear, including a first-aid kit. All cooking must be done on a gas-fueled stove, as fires are not permitted. The carry-in, carry-out rule applies while in the park. Wildlife is more accessible on the river and in remote areas. Always keep your distance: do not approach or feed animals. May and June are typically the best months to travel the Little Missouri River. Summer thunderstorms may result in flash floods, and fast-rising water levels can create sudden rapids. Check all water and weather conditions carefully before beginning your trip.
