Auto Touring Details
Theodore Roosevelt National Park offers paved scenic drives covering each of the two main sections of the park, the North Unit and the South Unit. If time is an issue, take the 36-mile Scenic Loop Drive in the South Unit, which presents a good overview of the park's badlands, prairies, and wildlife. Watch the antics of the entertaining prairie dogs at the many dog towns along the drive, or take in one of the best views of the park at Boicourt Overlook or the highest accessible point at Buck Hill. Ridgeline Nature Trail has a short guided and informative trail. If your trip allows, take another day to drive the 14-mile Scenic Drive Loop in the North Unit, which offers different panoramas and chances for wildlife viewing. Some of the stops offer a short guided trail with educational markers along the way, such as the Little Mo Nature Trail and Caprock Coulee Trail.
