Silers Bald Details

Situated between Thunderhead Mountain and Clingmans Dome, and split in half by the North Carolina-Tennessee state line, this man-made bald is an interesting addition to any hiker accessing the Appalachian trail or Clingmans Dome. The summit is named after a prosperous North Carolinian who used the cleared summit to graze livestock during the 1800s, and since acquisition by the National Park System has begun to begin the slow process of natural reforestation. Meadows still remain, however, and some of the clearer cliffs and meadows offer breathtaking views of the Smoky Mountains.
