Shuckstack Tower Trail Details
This trail leads to one of the last remaining fire-lookout towers in the Smokies. Due to new ways of preventing and monitoring forest fires, most of towers have been deemed unsafe after years of disrepair, and have been dismantled and removed from summits. The tower, which is an 80-foot wood and steel structure that provides simply stunning views over the Unicoi and Nantahala Mountains, is accessible via a this difficult ascent over Twentymile Ridge. Although the trail occasionally levels out, it contains a number of steep sections, particularly during the last climb to the summit. Take caution if attempting to climb the fire tower.
