Mountain Farm Museum Details
The people who lived within the boundaries of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park were moved out when the park was established, but their homes, farms, and other buildings remained. The National Park Service moved a variety of log buildings here from around the park to depict a typical pioneer mountain farm. There's also costumed interpreters on hand to explain 19th century farm life and a variety of livestock and crops typical of farms of the era. Among the buildings here is the John Davis Cabin, built of logs in 1900 from the once-bountiful chestnut trees that were later decimated by an accidentally imported disease. The Enloe Barn, circa 1880, traveled only 200 yards to become part of the museum -- it was located on this property as part of a Ocanaluftee farm. Other buildings you can explore include an applehouse, meathouse, chickenhouse, springhouse, blacksmith shop, and two corncribs.
