Mingus Mill Details
This grist mill, built in 1886, is unique in that it uses water power to turn a cast-iron turbine engine rather than the typical water wheel to grind corn and wheat into meal. The turbine required less water volume to generate power than a typical water wheel. The mill operated until 1934, when the national park was established. You can see a miller demonstrate how the mill operates, and cornmeal and other products are for sale. Mingus Mill is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. between mid-May and mid-November, as well as at Thanksgiving.
