Elijah Oliver Place Details
This farmstead was built by the son of the original settlers of Cades Cove in 1866, after his original home was destroyed by Confederate raiders during the Civil War. The spread includes a dog-trot house -- two log cabins connected by a breezeway intended to let cool air circulate -- as well as a smokehouse, corn crib, springhouse, and barn. The "stranger's room" built onto the porch of Oliver's house was designed to provide hospitality to passing travelers.
