Cucumber Gap Loop Details

This wooded trail runs through Little River Valley, a pleasant, but wild and tumultuous waterway, before climbing over an old railroad grade to the Gap. The area is known as a vibrant wildlife habitat, and is home to woodpeckers, deer, wild turkeys, and a number of other animals. The small ascents and descents around the gap can be a little narrow, but the trail generally remains level and well graded. The Gap itself does not provide the most spectacular views; in the spring, the wild rhododendrons become the trail's main attraction. Parts of the loop are popular connecting trails for longer trails.
