Elkmont Campground Details

Elkmont was once a logging town where the riches of the Smoky Mountains forests were stripped down, processed, and shipped away. How nice, then, that this area is now a peaceful campground and a hub for hiking trails that snake off into the regrown woods. For a brief stroll, check out the self-guided Elkmont nature trail, a one-mile loop. The out-and-back, gravel-bedded Little River Trail parallels the river, a moderately difficult hike of just under five miles. Look for the historic Elkmont resort cottages along the way -- these were built in the 1920s as vacation getaways for rich residents of nearby Knoxville.
