Plan Around Camping
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Camping Details
The park maintains 10 front-country campgrounds, all of which possess restrooms with running water and flush toilets, but no showers or electrical or water hookups for RVs, which are permitted in all campgrounds except Big Creek. Reservations are strongly recommended, and sometimes required, for all campsites, and are given out on a first-come-first-served basis. Fees for the sites, which are open mid-March through mid-November, are $14-$23/night. Smokemont and Cades Cove Campgrounds are open year round. All backcountry camping requires permits, which are issued in person only from all park Ranger Stations and Visitor Centers. Some of the more popular backcountry sites require advance reservation. Campsites at Cades Cove, Cataloochee, Cosby, Elkmont, and Smokemont may be reserved online at [www.recreation.gov/](http://www.recreation.gov/) or by phone at (877) 444-6777.
