Big Creek Details
The Big Creek campground has just a dozen sites for tents, making it the smallest campground in Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The sites are set deep in the woods near the rushing waters of Deep Creek, but the campground isn't primitive -- there's a comfort station with flush toilets and running water, and Mountain Mama's Country Store is nearby. The Big Creek Trail starts at the campground and follows the grade of an old logging railroad. You can hike to Mouse Creek Falls or on to Walnut Bottoms, known for its large bear population. The Chestnut Branch Trail connects to the Appalachian Trail and the trail leading to the summit of Mount Cammerer.
