Auto Touring Details
Auto touring is one of Great Smoky Mountains National Park's most popular activities, with approximately 384 miles of road available to visitors. The majority of park roads are paved, but even those that are gravel are well maintained and easily passable with the average motor vehicle. Booklets and maps are available from the Visitor Centers, and numbered signs and posts help highlight park history and landmarks. Popular routes include Cades Cove Loop Road, Cataloochee Valley, Newfound Gap Road, and Upper Tremont Road, which can become congested in the extremely popular summer months. Please note that certain roads are closed periodically for seasonal or traffic purposes.
