Accessibility & Inclusive Travel Details
White Sands is committed to ensuring that all visitors, regardless of ability, can fully experience its breathtaking landscapes. For those with mobility challenges, the park offers accessible parking spaces at the visitor center, complete with ramps leading to the main facilities. The Interdune Boardwalk provides a wheelchair- and stroller-friendly path through the dunes, offering an immersive experience without the challenge of navigating loose sand. Accessible picnic shelters are also available, making it easy for everyone to enjoy a meal surrounded by stunning scenery. For visitors with visual impairments, the National Park Service App features audio tours of White Sands, including guides for the Dunes Drive and Interdune Boardwalk. These can be downloaded in advance to ensure uninterrupted access in areas with limited connectivity. Visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing can also benefit from the app's full transcripts accompanying each audio tour. Service animals are welcome in all park facilities and on all trails, as long as they remain leashed or harnessed unless such devices interfere with their work. Additionally, U.S. citizens or permanent residents with permanent disabilities may qualify for the Interagency Access Pass, a free, lifetime admission pass granting entry to national parks and other federal recreation sites. While it covers entrance fees, it does not apply to special recreation permits or concessioner fees. With these accessibility features in place, White Sands ensures that all visitors can explore its unique environment comfortably and safely.
