Slaughter Canyon Cave Details
Located at the end of Highway 418 in the Rattlesnake Springs area, this is one of the park's many undeveloped or "wild caves." There are no electrical lights, paved walkways, or elevators in this cave: Ranger-led tours take you through the cave's narrow, slippery passageways, lit only by headlamp and flashlight. You won't have to crawl, but the going is difficult. Some of the cave's most famous features include the Monarch -- the world's largest cave column -- and the Christmas Tree, a cave column covered in crystals. The cave also contains a substantial rimstone dam, a feature formed by the overflow of water from pools onto the surrounding cave floor.
