Fees and Reservations Details
Carlsbad Caverns National Park charges an entrance fee as well as additional fees for specific guided tours within the caverns. Here's a general overview of the fees and reservation requirements: Entrance Fees General Entrance Fee (per person, valid for 3 days): This fee covers entry into the park and the self-guided portions of the caverns, such as the Big Room and the Natural Entrance. As of my last update, the fee was approximately $15 for adults 16 years and older. Children 15 and under are admitted free of charge. Guided Tour Fees King's Palace, Left Hand Tunnel, Lower Cave, Hall of the White Giant, and other special tours: These guided tours have additional fees ranging from approximately $15 to $20 per person, depending on the tour's complexity and duration. Some tours, like the Slaughter Canyon Cave Tour, might have higher fees due to their extended nature and the unique experiences they offer. Reservation Requirements Reservations: For the general entrance to the cavern, reservations are required per $1, to ensure entry at your desired time. Reservations can be made through the Recreation.gov website or by phone. There is usually a non-refundable reservation fee in addition to the entrance fee. Guided Tours: Reservations are required for all guided tours due to limited availability. These can also be booked through Recreation.gov. It's advisable to book well in advance, as these tours can fill up quickly, especially in peak seasons. Special Considerations Annual Passes: The America the Beautiful - The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass is accepted and covers the entrance fee for the pass holder and accompanying passengers in a single, private, non-commercial vehicle. This pass does not cover the additional fees for guided tours. Fee Free Days: The National Park Service offers several fee-free days throughout the year when the entrance fee is waived for all visitors. However, guided tour fees still apply.
