Mountain Mahogany Wilderness Details
Located just after the Mather Overlook along the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive, the Mountain Mahogany Wilderness provides a transition between the juniper forests of the valley area and the scrubby plants that reside at the higher elevations. The small, waxy leaves are curled downward, hence the name Curleaf Mountain Mahogany. In the late summertime you can see these trees covered in fuzzy spirals of bright green as they are about to release their seeds.
